Designing and building a deck that works best with your home takes some consideration. How big? How many levels? What should the stairs look like? Railings or seats around the edge? What material to use? Pressure treated wood? Cedar? Redwood? Composite? There are a lot things to consider; choosing the right options will greatly enhance your enjoyment of your new deck.
Decks also need maintenance, no matter what they are built of. Wood decks must be treated with some kind of preservative every few years. Even composit decks need regular attention.
Not all old decks need to be completely replaced. It is possible to replace weakened members without removing the entire structure. This will extend the life of an existing deck and ensure it’s continued safety.
